Shipshewana
Antique Market
Next
Market: Saturday, August 2, 2008
- 7am - 4pm
The Antique Market
began at the Trading Place Antique Gallery in 2002, and was adopted
the following year by the Shipshewana
Retail Merchants Association, expanding it into a town-wide
festival. This year we expect over 150 vendors to set up
in the grassy areas, under the big top, and around the winding sidewalks,
with 100 vendors set up inside the Gallery.
The Antique Market emphasizes top quality antiques,
requiring all antiques to be pre-1960, and reproductions are not
allowed. It’s an understatement to say the Antique Gallery
knows its antiques. Gallery manager, Chuck Haarer, is also the manager
of the Shipshewana Miscellaneous and Antique Auction, held every
Wednesday, year round, on the grounds of the Shipshewana Flea Market.
The weekly auction draws vendors and buyers from across the country,
and has up to 10 auction rings selling at one time.
A
drawing will be held around 2pm for gift certificates in the amounts
of $200, $100, & $50, and winners must be present at the time
of the drawing. Food will be available on the Gallery grounds. There
is no admission charge for either the Antique Market or the town-wide
Antique Festival. The Gallery is just two blocks south of the historic
downtown shopping area, which will host events and specials all
day long. Bring the entire family for a fun day of antiquing, eating,
and festivities! According to Elsie Nibbe, who helps organize the
event, “Every year it gets bigger, better and more fun!”
